Who needs friends when you have anonymous feedback apps?

Who needs friends when you have anonymous feedback apps?

If you think that sounds like a recipe for abuse, well, you’re not alone. With such rapid growth — it now has 300 million users — Sarahah has raised concerns among parents and educators that it’ll be a haven for online bullying, especially because it’s such a hit with teenagers and young adults. But perhaps a larger question is: Why these anonymous apps have such appeal in the first place, and what is it that apps like Sarahah can do to keep the trolls away?

Sarahah is the brainchild of Zain al-Abidin Tawfiq, a systems analyst who originally created it as a way for employees to give feedback to their employers without fear of retribution. Tawfiq, who’s from Saudi Arabia, says the name “Sarahah” is Arabic for “honesty.” “Having anonymous feedback would facilitate communications and help people develop, so that the company can improve,” he told Engadget. read more

Borderlands Dev Reveals A New Shooter With A Twist

Borderlands Dev Reveals A New Shooter With A Twist

Gearbox, which is best known as the developer of the Borderlands series, has quietly revealed its next project. Like Borderlands, Project 1v1 is a first-person shooter, but it offers a twist.

Project 1v1 is described as a “competitive first-person shooter that combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game.” Unfortunately, that’s virtually everything we know; the email Gearbox sent out to some fans and the game’s new website both contain little more info than that. You can check out some artwork from the site below. read more

Leaked PS4 5.0 Update Patch Notes Reveal What’s Next For The Console

Leaked PS4 5.0 Update Patch Notes Reveal What’s Next For The Console

Last month, Sony announced that PlayStation 4‘s 5.0 system update was on the way and that a beta would take place in August. While it still hasn’t shared official details about the changes and improvements the patch will introduce, the update notes for it have now been leaked.

Eurogamer reports that it has obtained the release notes for the 5.0 patch. The major changes include the ability to stream 1080/60 FPS gameplay over Twitch using a PS4 Pro, as well as a new system that allows you to follow any PSN member (rather than only verified individuals, like developers). This setup sounds more like what’s possible on Xbox One or Twitter, where one person can follow another without the two needing to add each other as friends. If that idea disturbs you or you simply want Bob to stay out of our business, privacy settings will allow you to close yourself off to non-friends or block specific people. read more

There Is No Longer A ‘Best’ Time To Play A Video Game

There Is No Longer A ‘Best’ Time To Play A Video Game

Most modern video games exist in a constant state of flux. That includes competitive online games like Overwatch and Splatoon as well as singleplayer games like Breath of the Wild and The Witcher 3. Deciding to play a new game means deciding to play this version of the game, now. If you want to play it today, you play today’s version. read more
