Overwatch’s Doomfist Used To Pick Up And Throw Other Players

Overwatch’s Doomfist Used To Pick Up And Throw Other Players

Overwatch‘s newest character, Doomfist, was a long time coming–his existence in the lore was known before the game released, and players had been clamoring to see him since launch last year. But the character that will soon be available is quite different from earlier versions that Overwatch’s developers worked on.

At San Diego Comic-Con tonight, Blizzard hosted a panel where it discussed the development process of Doomfist, sharing early concept art and ideas that didn’t ultimately make it into the final iteration. Lead designer Geoff Goodman explained that an early version of Doomfist was able to physically pick up enemies. This allowed him to use them as human shields to absorb damage or even throw them off of cliffs. read more

Microsoft swats Russia’s Fancy Bear with ingenious legal takedown

Microsoft swats Russia’s Fancy Bear with ingenious legal takedown

It’s time for Putin’s hackers to be on the receiving end of the beatdown stick of digital attacks this week. The folks behind the attack come from Microsoft, and the Russian hacker team goes by the name Fancy Bear. Yes, Fancy Bear, a name that’s brought relative shame to the Democratic National Convention’s game, also known as the Kremlin’s cyber spy team. But Microsoft isn’t attacking with “the cyber” – they’re attacking with… the law!

Microsoft’s legal team is rolling deep with lawsuits aplenty, a bunch of which were originally filed back in 2016, with actions starting well before this in years past. Microsoft sued the hacker group itself in federal court with accusations of cybersquatting, computer intrusion, and infringing on Microsoft-owned trademarks. The full legal documents – those made public – can be found at Notice of Pleadings. read more

The Razer Blade laptop was the first breakout product from the company outside its PC peripheral roots.

Sarah Tew/CNET

It’s been a long time since Razer was satisfied building merely gaming mice, keyboards, and headphones. Every January, the company shows off a crazy new computer at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas — remember the three-screen laptop? — and now, Bloomberg reports Razer is working on a phone as well.

We don’t know much about the device, mind you — only that it could be “a mobile device tailored for its consumer base of hardcore gamers,” according to Bloomberg’s multiple anonymous sources. read more

Bungie Promises Destiny 2 PvE Improvements To Grumbling Beta Players

Bungie Promises Destiny 2 PvE Improvements To Grumbling Beta Players

If there’s a general consensus on the Destiny 2 beta, it’s this: Player vs. Player (PvP) makes you feel great; Player vs. Environment (PvE) makes you feel underpowered. Bungie is hearing all of those complaints. The studio says to expect changes when the game launches for real in September.

Over the past three years, one of the core tenets of Destiny has been that weapons and gear have the same functions no matter where you play. Whether you’re in the competitive Crucible or blasting aliens in story missions, your pulse rifles and shotguns will have the same damage, perks, and rates of fire. This has led to all sorts of gripes throughout the years, as whenever Bungie tweaks Destiny’s weapon balance for PvP, it can have a negative impact on PvE and vice versa. read more
